Iraq War...Quien Sabe?
Hola Amigos,
I've been thinking a lot about the War in Iraq lately. What are we to do? I must confess that my concern was sparked by the Rosie/Hasselbeck exchange of words this past week. Along with that heated discussion I finally sat down and read a letter from a friend in Spain, se llama Manuel Carrasco. The first page was filled with warm greetings, then he began asking me questions about everything in the Middle East. Seeing as how his note arrived in mid-February and I'm just now getting around to reading it, I can't help but be surprised by the timing; obviously this is an issue I need to invest more time in.
I haven't given too much thought about the mess we're in over the past few months. I guess I've gotten numb to the constant supply of more bad news of dead people. Everyday I hear it and think, "man, that's too bad" and then I go on my way getting through my shift at work or whatever I'm doing. OK, so I'm not that flippant about the situation, but you know...
Anyway, I wonder if at the heart of the constant celebrity scrutiny of President Bush there might be truth involved? I remember when we first entered Iraq and then Baghdad and so on I kept thinking, "This will hurt for a while and lives will be lost, but people are also going to be saved for years to come as a result...we're doing good." Now it's been four years and we have gotten only so far. It seems that the pain and suffering of Iraq that was once attributed to Saddam Hussein and his evil cronies is now the responsibility of Sunnis and Shiites. We are now in a civil war that happens out in the open and under the table as well. How do we stop this madness?
I ask you, "What would Jesus do?"

I feel numb about the whole thing as of late. Jacob is pretty passionate about issues regarding the Middle East. I don't want to speak for him, but I will say I really respect his consistent stance AND the fact he seems to never tire of discussing it. I remember he was very into Middle Eastern history in college (pre 9/11) and had a number of books that he poured over because the cultures (yes I did mean to make that plural) fascinated him. As far as the war goes, I can say there are few things I've seen him get so worked up about. I'm sure he would love to lend out some of his books.

Thanks Heidi!
Let's get together! I am interested in the Middle East as that is my family's heritage...I mean, I'm like 1/8 Lebanese...and have read the 'Bible' of the Middle East conflict, "From Beruit to Jerusalem"...it's a good one. Anyway, thanks for the thoughts.
