Happy Thanksgiving! A Question.

I was listening to NPR this past weekend and they were discussing cooking tips for Thanksgiving. The question of aluminum foil came up, "Are you suppose to cook with the shiny side up or down?" I found the question hilarious. The co-host, who was a professional cook, swore that there made no difference...but I'm not sure she knew what she was talking about. Why? Well, think about it...if I wanted to work on my tan I would hold up the shiny side in front of my face in order to receive the best results. Why would that not be the case for a turkey? There has to be a side that works better. Which makes me wonder...would tanning oil help with that golden brown look on the bird that we all desire?

I know we talked about this IRL, in real life, that is, but I think when cooking a turkey conventionally that when one is using tin foil on only parts of the turkey, one is doing it to keep these parts from overcooking. So In this sense it makes sense to have the shiny side out, I think. If you are wrapping the whole turkey to slow cooking, again this applies. Often times things are put in foil to keep the moisture in, though. For this purpose, I don't think it matters which side goes out, but the shiny side is so much prettier.

So, did the leftover turkey say to the leftover pecan pie?

"Curses, foiled again."

P.S. Your new post was brillilant. It blessed my often aching heart.
