Almost time...!
The countdown is on...only 13 days! No silly, I'm not talking about Valentine's Day, I'm talking about baseball spring training! I love it. All of our favorite Cards will be returning to defend their title. Well, I mean a lot has to happen until Red October happens again (hopefully). But, if the Cards are right, (get it?) they will be headed that way soon.
Although we've lost a few players that helped bring us the World Series Title in 2006 we still have the golden keys...Carpenter, Pujols, Rolen, Eikstein...they're all in there! Goodbye to Weaver and Suppan, but Hello to great players that make our team great!
They'll be reporting to practice on the 14th, then spring training games start in March, with an Opening Day set for early April. I can't wait...almost there!

Could Fashion be a Sign of Connection to the Past?
As I was reading for class I thought about a conversation I had the other day. We were talking about fashion and trends at work...my friend (the Puerta Ricana) suggested that I am trendy. However, I tend to think of myself as one who tends to dress tradtionern...a mix of traditional and modern. It got me thinking...our generation, while being all about the modern dress, we really like the trends of yesteryear as well.

The fashion landscape today is endrenched with vintage clothing. I live just down the street from Rag-O-Rama, a vintage clothing store that is always full of college students and twenty/thirty-somethings. Anthropologie is a very successful national clothing chain that specializes in women's fashion from years and years ago. Adidas and Reebok have made millions on creating new shoe designs that involve the look of famed shoes from the 70s and 80s. Last but not least, Urban Outfitters has made a whole store based on clothes that look old and used. The list is endless of examples of people wanting to be modern, yet connected to the past.
We are a generation that lives in the now, but remembers the past it seems. This same trend ventures into others cultures...while the Sports world has current superstars like Albert Pujols, Tiger Woods and the Manning brothers, they can't help but remember Micheal Jordan, Muhamad Ali, and the great Bambino. The music world's current stars include Justin Timberlake, Coldplay, Beyonce...yet, they would be nothing without James Brown, Ella Fitzgerald, and the Beatles; and they recognize it also. Where would Guy Ritchie or Steven Speilberg be without the first great movie director, Orson Welles?
All this to say, we are connected to our past and realize it. We celebrate history of those that came before and acknowledge that while we make our own history we are part of a long story! I love being a part of a group of people that want to turn our own page, but appreciate being a part of a bookshelf full of life lived.
If you look down life-lines, from the present to those before and then those before them and so on, it must be incredible to see the connections made. I wonder how we would live today if we truly remembered what came before...to remember their triumphs, struggles, finish lines, and lessons learned along the way.
A few weeks ago I got a pair of Vans, and walk with confidence in them. It's interesting, I make college students and 35-year-olds jeolous that the shoes are not on their feet. Maybe I'm reaching a bit too far with this wanting to be connected to our past thing, but there is definetely something there.
